How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Advanced, Medical-Grade Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal works by delivering short pulses of high-energy light into the skin. These pulses pass through the surface of the skin and are selectively absorbed by tattoo ink particles in the dermis.

Because the laser energy is delivered in rapid bursts, it creates a photo acoustic effect rather than a thermal burn. This causes the tattoo ink to shatter into microscopic fragments without significantly heating or damaging the surrounding tissue.

Once the ink particles are broken down, the body's immune system gradually clear the ink through the body's lymphatic system. Fading occurs progressively between sessions.

Which Tattoos Are Optimal?

Black, dark blue, and dark ink gray are often most responsive. Green, red, pink, teal, purple are more resistant to laser and may never achieve complete clearance.

Tattoos older than one year respond better than new tattoos as the ink has already been slightly broken down with time.

Professional tattoos are safest to remove owing to consistent depth of ink placement.

Tattoos located on areas with good circulation such as the arms, chest, and upper back fade faster than tattoos in circulation poor areas such as the feet.

Which Tattoos are Treatable But More Challenging?

Green, red, pink, orange, yellow, teal, purple are more resistant to laser and may never achieve complete clearance.

Dense or heavily layered tattoos. For this reason, coverup tattoos can be challenging to remove.

Tattoos on areas with reduced circulation such as the lower legs, ankles, feet, and hands.
